After Joint Replacement Surgery

ALLOWABLE ACTIVITIES & RESTRICTIONS AFTER JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERY

It is fair to say that you have about a 96% chance that you will go through the operation without any significant complication occurring.

  • Revision joint surgery is much more complex and technically much more difficult than first time surgery. These complex operations have a greater risk factor than first-time hip replacement surgeries.

  • All the risks associated with first-time hip replacements are present, but the chances of complications occurring are greatly increased. These are among the most difficult procedures performed in orthopedic surgery.

  • The best recommended activities are walking, swimming and cycling. You can play golf and ride a stationary or mobile bike, however falling could cause disastrous injury to your joint.

  • You must not flex the leg above the hip at anytime.
  • When sitting, keep knees below hips. Do not lean forward!
  • When reclining with both leg straight, lean back on hands. Never lean forward!
